Dark NME Fastest in Day-One Trials For All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs Track

Dark NME, a two-year-old quarter horse filly, dominated day-one trials for the $3 million All American Futurity today at Ruidoso Downs Race Track winning the 10th trial race by two-lengths in a time of 21.101 seconds for 440-yards.

“I thought she didn’t break as well as she did in the Rainbow final,” jockey Francisco Calderon said. “She had a little early adversity but I think that will help her in the future. Once I tapped her on the right side she took off again and had another level of speed.”

Dark NME qualified for the All American Futurity final as a two-time stakes winner already. The filly broke the 400-yard track record in winning the Rainbow Futurity here on July 16, and also won Remington Park’s Oklahoma Breeder’s Futurity on April 22. She is undefeated in six lifetime starts.

The filly is owned by Willy Garcia of TYKHE Racing and is trained by Santos Carrizales Jr. She is sired by Hes Relentless out of the mare Quions by Spit Curl Jess.

Two other quarter horses, Devasating and AJ Precious Jewel, also qualified for the All American final out of the tenth race. The two other finalists include Sandstone Mountain, winner of the 8th trial, and Flyin Rabbit 123 winner of the 4th trial.

Day-two trials for the All American Futurity will be held on Saturday with sixteen races. On Sunday, trials will be held for the $1.2 million All American Derby and $715,000 All American Oaks with fifteen races. First post is set for 11 a.m. both days.

Meanwhile, the New Mexico-bred thoroughbred and quarter horse sale continues on Saturday immediately following the races in the All American Sales Pavilion. A free concert featuring Will Banister and Landon Dodd will take place in the Events Center across from the grandstand Saturday evening following the races.
