TRIPLE CROWN REPORT Presented by:
Cowboys Gun Z Fastest During Day-2 Trials For All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs
Cowboys Gun Z, a two-year-old gelding, grabbed an early lead and held on to win the 9th trial race today and qualified with the fastest time for the $3 million All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs.
Ridden by jockey Agustin Silva, the gelding won for the first time ever in a running time of 21.576 seconds for 440-yards.
“I’m so happy right now for everyone involved with this horse,” Silva said. “We’ve been working on some gate issues with the gelding ever since the Rainbow trials and that work paid off today. He warmed-up good and stood-still in the gate even with a little trouble around him. The horse did everything very professionally today and showed his talent and ability.”
Cowboys Gun Z is owned by West Texas Racing Partners and trained by Mike Joiner. The gelding is sired by Flying Cowboy 123 out of the mare Cf Smokin Gun by Tres Seis. The gelding paid $8.40, $3.00 and $2.20.
Other quarter horses that qualified for the Labor Day final include: Dashing Tres, winner of the 6th trial race; Trane Station V and Cuz Lightyear that both qualified out of the 10th trial race; and Corner Picket 123 that won the 1st race of the day.
Racing continues on Sunday with trials for the $1.2 million All American Derby and $715,000 All American Oaks for three-year-old quarter horses going 440-yards. First post is 11 a.m.
