Trainer Todd Fincher Sweeps the Rio Grande Senorita and Senor Futurities with Comic Hot Toddy and Delbert Too

Going into today’s co-featured races, nine of the 20 horses in the two Rio Grande Futurities came out of the Todd Fincher barn. In the end, the winners of both the Rio Grande Senorita Thoroughbred Futurity and the Rio Grande Senor Thoroughbred Futurity were Fincher-trained. Comic Hot Toddy captured the win for the fillies in the Senorita, and Delbert Too hit the wire first for the colts and gelding in the Senor on a fast track with no wind.

The Rio Grande Senorita and Rio Grande Senor were the highlights of this Sunday card and trainer Todd Fincher took home the top prize in both. Comic Hot Toddy dueled outside a rival through pretty quick opening fractions of 21.75 and 44.50 then took charge and drew away under jockey Shane Laviolette to cover five-and-one-half furlongs in 1.03.97 for the Senorita restricted to fillies.

On a day that celebrated the versatility of the American Quarter Horse, Luchador, Bad Monkey, and Lynnder 16 all won their AQHA Challenge races today at Ruidoso Downs Race Track. The wins qualify each of them to compete in the 2020 Bank of America Challenge Championships currently scheduled to be held on October 24th at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Cherokee Senator Runs Fastest Qualifying Time in Adequan Ruidoso Downs Derby Challenge Trials

The first trial heat for the Adequan Ruidoso Downs Derby Challenge Trials proved to be loaded with speed as seven of the ten qualifiers came out of that heat including Cherokee Senator who clocked the fastest time of the day on a fast track. The 3-year-old Texas-bred ran the 400-yards in 19.721 just beating second-place finisher Silk and Stilettos to the wire.
