Every Thursday The Race Book is the host site of a handicapping contest. Come in and try your hand at picking the winners!

RULES: Billy’s Shootout Six Handicapping Contest is conducted every Thursday at The Race Book at Ruidoso Downs Race Track with a monthly selection of tracks and races chosen for the contest. There is a $5 buy-in to enter, with two ways to participate in the contest.

The first way, contestants are provided a sheet with the number of races that the particular handicapping track has. They are allowed to pick a certain horse prior to each race and if their horse wins they get the win and place amount total for that particular race. This is done for each race the selected handicapping track offers. At the end of the race card, the contestant with the highest dollar amount wins $100, second highest dollar amount wins $50, and third highest dollar amount wins dinner for two at The Race Book.

The second part of the contest is a pick-six where the contestants are given a second sheet which lists the last six races of the selected handicapping track. The contestant must pick a certain horse for each of the last six races and turn it in prior to the first leg of the pick-six. If someone successfully picks the last six races they win $1,000. If no one wins the last six, then there is a carryover. Each month there is a mandatory $1,000 payout in the pick-six. If no one successfully picks the last six races, then there is a payout for the last five, four, etc.
