The Quarter Horse derby that is the premier derby and carries the sport’s largest derby purse is the Grade 1 All American Derby.
Run over 440 yards on the day before Labor Day, the All American Derby offers the winner more than just the lion’s share of the large purse, which has reached as high as $2.8 million. It also awards the winner with an invitation to the Grade 1, $600,000 Champion of Champions at Los Alamitos Race Course in Southern California.

2021 All American Derby News Updates
Instygator, a three-year-old gelding, turned the tables on triple crown hopeful Empressum and won the $929,225 All American Derby at Ruidoso Downs Race Track on Sunday.
Both Jess Savin Candy and Empressum, the two quarter horses that will be attempting to win a triple crown in the All American Futurity and Derby, both made appearances on the race track this morning at Ruidoso Downs Race Track.
Ruidoso and Rainbow Futurity champion Jess Savin Candy will wear the number-seven blanket in the gelding’s attempt at winning the first two-year-old triple crown in forty years in the $3 million All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs Race Track on Labor Day, Sept. 6.
