RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM – JULY 31, 2020 – Peves Jackpot Jack raced down the track today and clocked the fastest qualifying time in the trials for the John Deere Ruidoso Downs QH Juvenile with a time of 17.556. The finals for the 350-yard, $25,000 race for two-year-olds will be run on August 15th.

Peves Jackpot Jack, a sorrel gelding by High Rate of Return out of Jackie Perfect Age by Pyc Paint Your Wagon, is owned by Regina Laymon. The Oklahoma-bred horse comes out of the barn of Eddie Willis and was ridden today by Jimmy Brooks.

“This horse isn’t paid up in the All American so this is the right spot for him to succeed,” said trainer Willis. “He’s been showing us he could run and proved it today.”

According to jockey Jimmy Brooks: “He left fast, and I could tell by the third jump what was about to happen. He pricked his ears a little, and I reminded him of what we were doing. He muscled on down the race track. I’ve worked him in the mornings too. He’s fast and has a good attitude.”

The barn of Mike Joiner had a successful day in the trials as they qualified three horses for the final. Graceful Paradise had the third-fastest qualifying time of 17.48, Lastraintoclarksvill qualified with the fourth-fastest time of 17.758 (tied with the time of Empire of Grace), and Grace of Monaco had the sixth-fastest time at 17.806.
