Hezgothelook Z Wins Quarter Horse Racing’s Triple Crown in $3 Million All American Futurity at Downs of Albuquerque
(Albuquerque, NM) Hezgothelook Z became only the second quarter horse in racing history to win the Triple Crown today by winning the $3 million All American Futurity for two-year-olds at the Downs of Albuquerque.
With jockey Bryan Candanosa aboard, the gelding held off KJ Bad Moon Rising to win by a neck and solidify a place in racing history having won the Grade-1 Ruidoso, Rainbow and All American Futurity stakes races in one summer. It has been previously done just one time, by Special Effort in 1981.
”We’re grateful, excited, happy, a dream come true,” owner Norma Olivarez of Triple One Ranch said in the winner’s circle. Norma dedicated the triple crown to the community of Ruidoso and the victims of the fires and floods earlier this summer.
The gelding paid $3.40, $2.60 and $2.40 running 440-yards in 21.120 seconds. It was a sixth win in seven lifetime starts with earnings now topping $2 million. Hezgothelook Z is sired by Favorite Cartel out of the mare Shezgothelook by Fdd Dynasty. The gelding will now rest for the remainder of the calendar year according to trainer Toby Keeton.
Keeton’s horses in the $1 million All American Derby for three-year-olds teamed up to finish 1-2-3 as Dashing Tres and jockey Candanosa came home a winner over stablemates Visa and Shoeless. The gelding won for the seventh time in ten career starts having also won the Rainbow Derby at the Downs of Albuquerque earlier in the summer.
Dashing Tres paid $6.40, $3.80 and $3.00 in a winning time of 20.951 seconds for 440-yards. The gelding is sired by Tempting Dash out of the mare Sissys Tres Girl out of Tres Seis.
In the $625,000 All American Oaks for three-year-old fillies, Especially Goodcandy and jockey Ricky Ramirez was a half-length winner in a time of 20.923 seconds for 440-yards. The filly is sired by Jess Good Candy out of the mare Especially Tres by Dashair.
The filly paid $19.00, $7.40 and $4.80 in a time of 20.923 seconds for 440-yards for owners Mark and Annette McCloy and trainer Trey Wood.
The $250,000 All American Gold Cup for three-year-olds and up was won by Jess Good Wine and jockey Candanosa for trainer Keeton in a running time of 20.801 seconds for 440-yards. Jess Good Wine is a four-year-old with ten career wins including five-in-a-row for Guns Up Racing.
Jess Good Wine is sired by Good Reason Sa out of the mare Mr Perrys Wine by Mr Jess Perry, and paid $7.00, $2.20 and $2.10 in a running time of 20.81 seconds for 440-yards.
The $100,000 All American Invitational Stakes for three-year-olds was won by Bacardi and jockey Alfredo Sigala at 49-1 odds in an upset that came in a running time of 21.116 seconds for 440-yards. The three-year-old gelding paid $100, $33.20 and $16.60. Sired by Fdd Dynasty out of the mare Jess Another Habit by Mr Jess Perry, the gelding is owned by Michael and Daniel Valenzuela and trained by Tony Sedillo.
Aguila Rapida won the $200,000 All American Juvenile for two-year-olds in a running time of 20.919 seconds for 440-yards paying $3.40, $2.40 and $2.20 for owner John Simmons and trainer Keeton. The gelding is sired by Tempting Dash out of the mare Eyema Eagle by One Fabulous Eagle.
The $100,000 All American Invitational was won by longshot Bacardi and jockey Alfredo Sigala at 49-1 odds, paying $100.00, $33.20 and $16.60. The three-year-old surprised fans by winning for only the second time in eleven career starts for owners Michael and Daniel Valenzuela.
Barcardi’s race time was 21.116 seconds for 440-yards. The gelding is sired by Fdd Dynasty out of the mare Jess Another Habit by Mr Jess Perry for trainer Tony Sedillo, finishing three-quarters-length in front of Flyin Rabbit 123.
The Ruidoso Downs racing season wrapped up at the Downs of Albuquerque with more than $2.1 million wagered on the twelve-race card on Monday.
