(Ruidoso Downs, NM) Woody Rocks and jockey Christian Ramos took control early of trial race twelve and handily qualified for the $350,000 (est.) Zia Futurity at Ruidoso Downs Race Track today in the fastest time of the day, 19.812 seconds for 400-yards.

“It seems like he’s running better every time,” trainer Tony Sedillo said. “He’s been the sort that gets rolling but this time he broke which was a little different.”

The two-year-old is a proven stakes winner having already won the $50,000 Mountain Top Juvenile here on June 16. Woody Rocks will lead the field to the final of the Zia Futurity on Sunday, June 21.

Woody Rocks’ sire is Woodbridge out of the mare Jr Rock Star by Fantastic Corona Jr. for owner Juan Ramos and CHR Racing. Woody Rocks has three wins in four career starts.

Other quarter horses who qualified for the Zia Futurity include: KJ Bad Moon Rising, Mendel, Mountain Top Futurity winner Harken, Alamos, Suspicious Runner, HS Danger Weapon, Three Finger Jack, Big Jessie and Macho Daddys Girl.

Racing continues on Saturday with trials for the Zia Derby and Rainbow Derby. There will be fourteen races on the card Saturday with first post scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
