RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM -- JUNE 5, 2020 – During a rainy afternoon that saw a brief weather delay, trainer Casey Lambert pulled off four wins Friday to take the early lead in the Thoroughbred standings at Ruidoso Downs Race Track.

“We were lucky,” Lambert said, as he stood in the winner’s circle for the fourth time today. “We had some horses in the right spots to compete, and things fell our way today.”

Lambert won the second race with Shio, the fourth race with Sombra Negra, the sixth race with Blackberry Lisa, and the eleventh with Wages. Wages was claimed in the last race.

“She moved to the inside in the stretch and really showed some courage,” Lambert said. “That’s a nice young horse with a future.” The 3-year-old Wages won for the second time at Ruidoso Downs in four local starts.

With 54 horses on the backside, Lambert’s barn is expected to compete for the lead in the trainers standing race all season at Ruidoso Downs.

This weekend’s race program at Ruidoso Downs is loaded with exciting stakes races with the running of the $1 Million Ruidoso Futurity on Sunday, the first jewel in the Quarter Horse Triple Crown, and the $900,000 Ruidoso Derby on Saturday.
