Here come the New Mexico-bred two-year-olds on Friday for their first attempt at stardom as they compete in the $360,000 Mountain Top Futurity trials. First Post is at Noon.

Some to the top runners to consider:

Race 2: BIG VINES (#1) scored an impressive bullet work here May 7th and is a top state-bred for trainer Jose Meraz and La Feliz Montana Ranch (Same connections as Elmer--top qualifier in the Ruidoso Futurity trials last weekend)   The gelding is a January foal so maybe a little more mature than some others runners. Raul Herrera rides at 9/2 odds.

Race 5: FANNCEE (#5) is 8-1 on the morning line and trainer Wes Giles shrugs his shoulders when asked about her. “She’s the type that seems to have all the talent in the World, but only when she decides to use it,” he said. Nice Price with successful connections—jockey Alan Hernandez is getting his picture taken regularly.

Race 6: BABEE DADDY (#2) is a top state-bred contender for trainer Giles. The gelding is owned by Wes’ son Jason. It was one of the most impressive winners of the day in the early May schooling works versus open. Here’s a winner for Giles and jockey Alan Hernandez and the odds are 9/2.

Race 9: HOLLYN BOOTIE (#9) runs for trainer Blane Wood on the outside. He thinks this filly was one of his fastest when breaking horses back on his ranch near Lubbock in the winter. Rider Ricky Ramirez should team-up nicely with the youngster at 3-1 odds.

Race 10: RKM CHICKS RANGE (#2) also goes for trainer Meraz and La Feliz Montana Ranch. Federico Martinez picks up the mount. This filly won her schooling work very impressively and she’s loaded with talent--favored at 5/2.
