SCHOOLING RACES DAY 1
Filly Ultra Rich Scores Fastest Time in Day One of Training Races at Ruidoso Downs Race Track
Ruidoso Downs, NM—Ultra Rich, a two-year-old filly, was clocked with the fastest time during day-one training races at Ruidoso Downs Race Track. The filly’s winning time for 300-yards was 15.441 seconds in the 13th race.
“I’ve ridden her four times now,” jockey Francisco Calderon said after the training race. “She has some experience from a previous trial at Sunland Park, and I’ve worked her a few times too so I think she’s starting to figure things out. She seems like a very nice filly but it’s still very early.”
Ultra Rich is sired by Favorite Cartel out of the mare Walk Around Blues for the La Feliz Montana Ranch and trainer Javier Rodriguez. The filly was a $95,000 sale purchase at the Ruidoso Downs All American Yearling Sale last fall.
Trainer Heath Taylor’s barn scored five wins on the day including his runners Exculpatory, AJ Shining, Crooked Nose Flash, MKS Tempting and Hesa Gamer. Jockey Rodrigo Sigala Vallejo was on board all the winners for the Taylor barn.
“I thought Hesa Gamer was especially good in his trial,” Taylor said. “He showed some closing ability which is what you’re really looking for at this stage of the game.”
There were a total of 22 training races held today with the same number of races to be run tomorrow. First post time is 10 a.m.
Ruidoso Downs opens for the 2023 racing season on Friday, May 26 with trials for the $1 million Ruidoso Futurity.
