New Mexico-bred Sale Results
Ruidoso Downs, NM—The average price of New Mexico-bred quarter horses and thoroughbreds sold at the annual August sale at Ruidoso Downs jumped by 49.27% this year according to preliminary sales sheets made available on Sunday.
The average price for the 226 state-bred yearling horses that went through the auction ring was $25,157 compared to $16,853 in 2021.
The highest price paid for any thoroughbred yearling at the sale was an unnamed chestnut thoroughbred sired by Marking out of the mare Pay Back Time by Songandaprayer for $165,000. The colt was purchased by Jana Trotter.
The quarter horse yearling that brought the highest price during the sale $130,000 for Ridethehightide, a gray gelding sired by Big Daddy Cartel out of the mare Ms Riptide by Ocean Runaway. It was purchased by the partnership of J. Simmons Racing, Roger K. Beasley, Slash Z Quarter Horses and Wootan Racing.
