THURSDAY, JULY 4, 2024
Fine Am Eye, a four-year-old mare, held off a late charge by EBW Dancnthemoonlite to win the $50,000 Vista Distaff by a head today at Ruidoso Downs Race Track.
With jockey Noe Garcia on board, Fine Am Eye ran the 350-yard course in a time of 17.420 seconds and won for the seventh time in her career with earnings of over $175,000. Fine Am Eye is owned by Backdoor Thoroughbreds and trained by J.J. Gonzales III.
The mare is sired by Eye Am King out of the mare Starsmith by Tres Seis. The race was for New Mexico-bred fillies and mares that are three-years-old and up.
It was the first time Ruidoso Downs conducted racing since floodwaters came down the Rio Ruidoso on Saturday canceling the final two races and the entire race card last Sunday. The entire eight-race card went off without issues today.
Racing continues on Friday with trials for the $350,000 Zia Futurity for New Mexico-bred two-year-old quarter horses at 400-yards with first post set for 12:30 p.m. Racing will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend. For more info visit www.raceruidoso.com.
