JESS SAVIN CANDY SELECTS POST-POSITION SEVEN, EMPRESSUM TO WEAR NUMBER-TWO IN TRIPLE CROWN ATTEMPTS AT RUIDOSO DOWNS RACE TRACK THIS WEEKEND

Ruidoso and Rainbow Futurity champion Jess Savin Candy will wear the number-seven blanket in the gelding’s attempt at winning the first two-year-old triple crown in forty years in the $3 million All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs Race Track on Labor Day, Sept. 6.

“That’s the post position we wanted,” trainer John Stinebaugh said. “The horse is feeling good and grazing every morning. We’ll let him take a jog on the race track in the morning. He’s on schedule.”

Jess Savin Candy was made the 7-5 morning line favorite to win the race which will be the eleventh on the twelve-race card. The gelding will be ridden by his regular rider, Francisco Calderon for owners Dr. Jim Streelman and Bill Dale, and trainer John Stinebaugh.

In the $939,225 All American Derby, Ruidoso and Rainbow Derby winner Empressum will wear the number-two blanket in the gelding’s quest of a three-year-old derby triple crown on Sunday.

The gelding was made the 4/5 favorite in the Derby which is the eleventh of twelve races scheduled for Sunday, September 5. Empressum will be ridden by Rodrigo Sigala Vallejo for owners Jeff Jones and Steve Holt, and trainer Heath Taylor.

The $439,884 All American Oaks will feature 2020 All American Futurity Champion Whistle Stop Café attempting to top off her racing career undefeated with a tenth consecutive win. The filly’s connections selected post position number-three and will be the 1-2 favorite in the tenth race on Sunday for owner Laine Whitmire and trainer Trey Wood. Regular rider Tanner Thedford will get the mount.
