2024 SCHOOLING RACES DAY 1
APPREHENSIVE PROVES FASTEST IN DAY-ONE
TRAINING RACES AT RUIDOSO DOWNS RACE TRACK
Ruidoso Downs, NM—Apprehensive, a two-year-old gelding, broke sharply and held on to win the 3rd training race at Ruidoso Downs Race Track today while recording the fastest time of the day, 15.875 seconds for 300-yards.
“We’ve been working him at La Feliz Montana Ranch (Hondo, NM) in preparation and liked what we’ve seen thus far,” trainer Chris O’Dell said. “No mistakes were made today which is what you’re looking for this early.”
The gelding, owned by Ruidoso Downs Race Track owner Johnny Trotter, was ridden by Eduardo Nicasio. He is the son of Favorite Cartel by the mare You Can Fly by Walk Thru Fire. Apprehensive was a $105,000 sale purchase at the Ruidoso Downs Yearling Sale last fall. Apprehensive was bred in California.
“We picked him out at the sale and Mr. Trotter liked him enough to make the purchase,” O’Dell said. He’s a blood-brother to Opt In, another horse that I had in my barn last summer and thought was talented.”
Trotter also owns the second-fastest runner of the day in Racy Favorite, a two-year-old filly of Favorite Cartel out of the mare First Down Racy by First Down Dash. Ridden by Nicasio and trained by O’Dell, Racy Favorite was bred by Trotter in Texas. The filly won the 20th training race in a time of 15.883 seconds for 300-yards.
Training races will continue on Tuesday at Ruidoso Downs with first post time scheduled for 10 a.m. A total of 19 races are scheduled for tomorrow.
